How To Let A Shy Guy Know You Like Him?

He's super shy, and only been in one relationship. He's 20, still has his v-card, and is the sweetest, most gentleman-like guy I've ever met! He's really shy around me though, but not when we text. How can I let him know I like him, subtly? Or does it need to be obvious?
